Paddadam – ‘Donor fatigue’ sets in

Grewar has fought tirelessly to gain public and municipal support to restore the once beautiful park to its former glory, but the task has become too big for one man to fight alone and October 13 saw funds which had been raised to pay the workers at the site officially run dry.

AFTER many arduous months of perseverance on the Paddadam Clean Up Project, Doug Grewar is finally hanging up his hat, as it were.

Grewar has fought tirelessly to gain public and municipal support to restore the once beautiful park to its former glory, but the task has become too big for one man to fight alone and October 13 saw funds which had been raised to pay the workers at the site officially run dry.

“The spring that feeds Paddadam is drying up and for the first time the outlet channel is dry.” said Grewar, earlier in October, via social media. “The dam is the driest it has ever been and a perfect time to get an excavator in for a few days. We could have done this if we had received some serious donations, but it looks like donor fatigue has set in. Many promises have been made but are not being kept.”

“We have achieved a lot,” he added, “but there is still a lot more to be done. My thanks to all those who have supported the project with contributions of cash, material or machinery.”
