Vryheid Cricket Club – Don’t miss Sunday’s final – Mr X vs Wicket Wasps

Wicket Wasps made brisk work of reaching the target in just the 14th over, losing only two wickets, thanks to good knocks from Tiaan Naudè (67 not out) and Ashley van den Heever (41 not out).

VRYHEID Cricket Club members took part in two matches which were played last Sunday.

Wicket Wasps traveled to Paulpietersburg to take Dumbe on in the first Twenty/20 play off match to see who will face Mr X in the final this weekend. Dumbe lost the toss and were put in to bat. They managed to post a total of 141/9 in their 20 overs. Leon Solms (34) and Juan Freyer (21) top scored for Dumbe. Good bowling for Wicket Wasps came from PJ du Toit (4-0-28-3) and Connor High (4-1-10-2).

The only wicket taker for Dumbe was Juan Freyer (4-0-33-2). Wicket Wasps won by eight wickets and progress into the final.

Meanwhile, at Cecil Emmett Park, Mr X played the Gladiators in the first Kingsmead Mynahs Cup (30 over) league match. The match was reduced to 20 overs due to a weather delay. Gladiators batted first and scored 134/9 in their allotted overs. Gary Stride top scored with 30 runs alongside Wikus Janse van Rensburg and Andrew Vorster who each scored 16 runs. Best bowlers for Mr X were Gavin Bosman (4-0-10-2) and David Sandalls (4-0-26-1).

A good run chase from Duvan Grobbelaar (50 not out) and Matthew Stride (42) saw Mr X winning the game in the 17th over, losing three wickets along the way. Wicket takers for Gladiators were Craig Petersen (2-0-17-2) and Dean Aitken (3-0-29-1). Mr X won by seven wickets.

The final will be contested between Wicket Wasps and Mr X at Cecil Emmett Park this coming Sunday, starting at 1:00pm and promises to be a cracking game!
