The Newcastle Advertiser just received word that a puppy was pummeled to death at a home in oSizweni earlier today.
SPCA Inspector, Elize van Rooyen, said she received a call from the owner, who said his pregnant wife and brother witnessed the incident.
“He told me the dog was beaten to death with a brick by their neighbour,” she explained.
The neighbour said he killed the dog because it chased his livestock. He beat the animal so severely that what looked like its brains were found in its mouth.

The SPCA condemned the barbaric act, and said the guilty party would soon face the consequences of his actions.
The Newcastle Advertiser will meet with the owner of the dog tomorrow morning, when the carcass is handed over to the SPCA.
A full autopsy will be conducted to determine if, in fact, the dog was hit with excessive force.
Ms van Rooyen is currently compiling a docket, and will obtain the necessary statements from eye witnesses in due course.
We’ll keep you updated as the story unfolds.
