A life sentence was handed down to Thamsanqa ‘Busobenja’ Mthethwa (35) for the murder of Mohammed Moola (30) who was shot dead in his Nquthu shop on April 7.
Judge Sioghodhan, of the Madadeni High Court, found that Mthethwa had entered Mr Moola’s motor spares shop, Ezi Spares, and opened fire on Mr Moola.
His wife and brother, who were also in the shop at the time, were not injured in the shooting. A month before his murder, Mr Moola’s shop was burnt down by an unknown person. A case was opened yet no one was ever arrested for the crime. At the time of the incident Mr Mthethwa was out on parole after being sentenced to 15 years for a previous murder.
Police used a new computer generated identity programme to identify Mthethwa and link him to the scene of the murder.
