2 sentenced for attempted murder
The scholar used a knife to stab a 30-year-old man he had a dispute with
Philani Siyabonga Zondo (29) was recently sentenced to 7 years’ imprisonment, of which 4 years are suspended for five years. He was also found unfit to possess a firearm.
The sentence was handed down in the Ladysmith Regional Court after he was convicted of attempted murder and for being in possession of a dangerous weapon.
On December 28 last year in the Peacetown area, a 27-year-old man was badly assaulted by the accused. The victim sustained open wounds to the head and other parts of his body when he was attacked with a panga.
Zondo was immediately arrested and later granted bail.
In another matter where a sentence was handed down by the same court, a 20-year-old scholar was sentenced to 6 years behind bars, suspended for five years, with three years of correctional supervision. He was also found unfit to possess a firearm.
This conviction was also for attempted murder.
During the latter part of last year, the scholar used a knife to stab a 30-year-old man he had a dispute with in Roosboom. He then fled the area and was arrested by detectives a week later.
