A Friedmann bowling blast

152 bowlers from around the province and beyond who enjoyed a joyous weekend of competitive bowls

The 69th hosting of the Friedmann Bowls Tournament brought to Dundee 152 bowlers from around the province and beyond who enjoyed a joyous weekend of competitive bowls, entertainment and camaraderie.
The new format, seven games with 10 ends, went down a treat. The ‘induction’ of new bowlers, who were here for their first Friedmann, saw bowlers having to ‘race matchboxes’ with a string tied around their waists! This caused much merriment.
The sponsors of The Bills tournament, John and Trevor Douthwaite, again put on their cabaret act just before the first wood was rolled – and this time the theme was the Springbok rugby team.
The eventual winners of the tournament, after a very tight finish, were Hogart Gevers, Philip Scheepers, Miskiet Ferreira, Dion Leity from Vryheid/Zululand.

This is the third time this combination has taken the honours.

The Club thanks all the sponsors, especially Orange Grove and Time Freight, the club’s catering department and everyone else who made the Friedmann a blast!
