Funeral convoy “locks down” Ezakheni Mall

Songs expressing their fear of shopping at the mall and wanting Mbube Security out of the complex were heard being chanted by the angry funeral-goers

A large group of angry mourners “locked down” motorists and shoppers on Saturday at the Ezakheni Mall.

As part of paying their last respects to the cake vendor who was gunned down on Friday, October 29, the funeral convoy consisting of family and friends stopped at the Ezakheni Mall, effectively blocking off the main entrance.

For about 45minutes, vehicles inside the mall were parked in. The crowd refused to allow anyone in or out of the premises.

Songs expressing their fear of shopping at the mall and wanting Mbube Security out of the complex were heard being chanted by the angry funeral-goers.

There was no sign of any security at the time of the protest. Two men who were part of the convoy eventually calmed the crowd and managed to convince them to proceed to the cemetery.

The security guard accused of killing the cake vendor appeared today in the Ezakheni Magistrate’s Court for a bail application.
