Junior anglers achieve second place
The first fish of the day was caught by Afika Mbatha and it was clear that the competition was on. The team fought to the end, although the fish were very slow during the day.
ON Saturday, October 31, the Annual Interprovincial Competition between Kwazulu/Natal and Gauteng was fished at Leeuplaas and Heartsease at Vaaldam.
Fourteen teams participated in this prestigious event in different sections Masters A; Senior A,B and C; Ladies A; Junior u/19 A and Junior u/13.
The South African Freshwater Bank Angling Federation and KZNFBAU started an u/13 Freshwater Bank Angling initiative and it was the first time that the u/13 Schools Development team participated in this event. It was also their first introduction to competitive angling on an interprovincial level and they did exceptionally well. They achieved a second place, just four points behind the winners, the KZNFBAU u/13 A team, and beating the Gauteng u/13 A team who finished third.
The individual first place went to Londisizwe Mtshali and the individual second place to Ntokozo Mnguni. Well done. You have worked hard for these positions.
The first fish of the day was caught by Afika Mbatha and it was clear that the competition was on. The team fought to the end, although the fish were very slow during the day. During the last hour, the fish were biting like crazy and the biggest ‘Muddy’ of the competition, weighing 1.410kg, was caught by Mthunzi Mkhize.
We want to thank NRS Primary School for their support and the transporting of the children to and from the venue. Without their co-operation, this would not have been possible for Londisizwe Mtshali; Ntokozo Mnguni; Mtunzi Mkhize; Lungelo Masondo; Cebo Mnguni and Afika Mbatha, all learners from NRS. The managers and coaches for the day were Jasper Jonker, Llewellyn Schwab (jnr) and Sakkie Joubert.
We hope that this will inspire other junior anglers to become actively involved in freshwater bank angling on school level.
