And still nothing is done

The Acting Municipal Manager is aware of this, and yet nothing has been done. Despite the looming disaster when all the taps run dry, nothing is being done.

LAST Thursday, November 5, it was brought to our attention that members of the public are helping themselves to buckets of water from the public toilets behind the post office.

With the water crisis being what it is, and the rest of the community being fined for overusage, it hardly seems fitting that this practice should be allowed to continue. And this is merely a drop in the proverbial ocean with regard to ongoing running of carwashes in this area.

“See the hose pipe through the door?” stated a concerned resident on social media. “To the left of the bakkie is a guy collecting money from those using the facilities but he allows people to help themselves with as much water as they wish…”

According to an eyewitness report, there are approximately thirteen car washers operating in the area. The hose is provided for them to conduct their business in the parking lot.

Although we requested comment from AbaQulusi Municipality in the form of emails, which were read, but not responded to, as well as numerous unanswered phone calls, at the time of going to press, we had not received any comment.
