Teen arrested for double murder

A 12-year-old boy was arrested for stabbing two teenagers to death at a school in oSizweni, last Thursday morning.

A 12-year-old boy was arrested for stabbing two teenagers to death at a school in oSizweni, last Thursday morning.

Captain Shooz Magudulela, police spokesperson, said the child had killed his two 15-year-old victims after an argument broke out between them.

“It is alleged the 12-year-old went home after the argument to collect a knife. He returned to school and fatally wounded the two 15-year-olds by stabbing them in the chest.”

The suspect was held at the oSizweni Police Station, before he was released into his parents’ custody.

Angered oSizweni residents attempted to assault the school principal, because they thought their children’s safety was compromised.

The principal was escorted from school by police.

Since the tragic murder, the Democratic Alliance (DA) is demanding answers from KZN Education MEC, Peggy Nkonyeni, regarding school security.

Mbali Ntuli, DA KZN Spokesperson on Education, issued a statement which claimed the DA was concerned by the rising level of violent crimes within KZN schools.

In Ms Ntuli’s statement, a parliamentary reply to questions by the DA in June, revealed that almost half of KZN’s schools did not any have any form of security.

According to the response, 3 020 schools currently employed a security officer, while 2 984 schools did not.

Police investigations into the murder are still underway.
