There are times in life where support goes a long way.
Blackrock Casino has lent ammunition to the fight against the killer disease, growing exponentially in South Africa each year.
Casino Marketing Manager, Veneshrie Chetty elaborated this week.
“Diabetes is common among South Africans. Many are ignorant on early detection, causes and management.”
Blackrock’s wellness programme for November includes blood sugar testing at its in-house clinic, which already commenced for all staff.
The casino also places notices and updates staff on finer details.
Until November 16, Blackrock Casino is also lighting up in blue to spread the word about the deadly reality of diabetes.
“The answer to many a chronic condition is education and awareness.”
The blue outdoor lighting at Blackrock Casino ties into the free glucose, blood pressure and lung tests, being offered by dietician, Sonja van der Merwe and registered nurse, Estelle Liebenberg on November 13.
Make use of this service between 9am and 3pm at Mediclinic Newcastle.
“We encourage people to undergo regular check-ups. Few people know about the suffering one endures with diabetes, especially youngsters,” Sister Liebenberg explained.
For further information on the initiative, contact Sister Liebenberg, Neldie de Villiers or Mrs van der Merwe on 034 312 6916.
