A tragic end has befallen the mare and her foal from Garnet Street, Sunny Ridge.
The SPCA received complaints on Friday, November 20, that the mare had been lying on the same spot for three days.
Upon investigation, it was discovered the mare had injured its leg and was possibly dehydrated after giving birth to its foal the previous Sunday.
The foal and mare passed away on Saturday night, November 21.
At first it was uncertain whether the two horses had received medical assistance. However, SPCA inspector Elize van Rooyen assured concerned residents that the owner had indeed sought veterinary assistance, and had given the mare medication.
Ms van Rooyen said the matter would be investigated further.
