According to police, Gutebo turned up at the victim’s home in oSizweni in search of her mother. He proceeded to rape her 20-year-old daughter.

Before long, neighbours noticed Gutebo’s vehicle had been parked outside the home for a prolonged period of time.

“[They] went to investigate, only to find the victim being abused sexually,” said SAPS spokesperson, Captain Shooz Magudulela.

Police were contacted on June 14, 2013, and they arrested Gutebo.

The Madadeni Magistrate’s Court finally handed down the sentence on November 18.

Capt Magudulela said mentally disabled people could be placed in care facilities to ‘avoid making them victims of crime.

“Avoid leaving people with disability alone at home; ask [for the] assistance of a neighbour to ensure they are fed and safe,” he advised.
