Seven children, between the ages of five and 12-years-old, were seated at the back of the bakkie, on the load of bricks at the time.

It is alleged that the children were flung off the vehicle, along with the bricks. Reports indicated the driver of the bakkie was not injured. However, all the children sustained injuries, two of which were serious.

The cause of the accident is still to be investigated.

According to statistics from ER 24’s Jan Henk van Vuuren, a total of 41 people were reported injured in various collisions, in and around Newcastle recently.
