Operations held to root out stock theft
28 suspects were arrested for stock-related offences and have appeared in different magistrate's courts
Operations were conducted from November 22 to December 4 by the KwaZulu-Natal Stock Theft Unit in the Uthukela region to stop stock theft, to recover stolen stock and to ensure that the community abides by the Animal Identification Act. These operations were conducted in Ladysmith, Glencoe, Wasbank, Dannhauser, Dundee, Colenso, Ekuvukeni and surrounding areas.
28 suspects were arrested for stock-related offences and have appeared in different magistrate’s courts.
58 livestock were recovered, including cattle, goats, sheep and horses. They were taken to their owners and if they were unmarked, they were kept for safekeeping.
The KZN Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmnamonnye Ngobeni, applauded the Stock Theft Unit for conducting these operations, as this will assist in rooting out stock theft in the province. “We will continue with these operations and we urge the community to make sure they abide by the Animal Identification Act by marking their livestock properly,” she said.
