Fire completely guts factory

Flames leaped skyward as the factory slowly died. Exclusive video from inside the factory as it burns

Firefighters battled late into the night to extinguish a fire at the Incatex factory in the Danskraal Industrial Estate near the Sasko factory. It was to be a mammoth six-hour battle as the inferno raged out of control.

Firemen, with the help of traffic officers, battled water shortages (many fire hydrants were not working.)  When firefighters connected hoses to the hydrants, they discovered there was low water pressure.  The flames spread throughout the factory, which is believed to have been filled with toilet paper and other paper products.

“The fire kept on re-igniting, even when firefighters believed it was finally under control,” said officials as they battled the blaze right until the early hours of this morning.

“As the fire died down, we would be faced with massive balls of flames suddenly leaping from the smouldering debris,” said one tired firefighter. Flames leaped into the sky high above the factory roof at times and there was a bitter taste of toxic fumes in the air. Firemen, wearing breathing apparatus, entered the burning building at great risk.

At this stage, it is unknown what the cause of the fire was.  The fire was finally declared extinguished at 3.15am this morning.
