K9 officer on life support after suicide attempt

Constable Msomi is currently on life support in the ICU ward

Constable Msomi from the K9 Unit is fighting for his life after attempting to commit suicide last night at his home.

At about 7pm, police were notified of a shooting in Ezakheni E-Section. On arrival, officers found a young man lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to the face. A service pistol was beside him.

Const Msomi was off-duty at the time of the incident.

EMRS was notified and within minutes, paramedics arrived at the scene.

Const Msomi was stabilised and transported to hospital, where he is currently on life support in ICU.

At this stage, it is unknown what triggered the young officer to want to end his life. Fellow colleagues and friends were shocked to hear of the tragic incident.

A colleague described Const Msomi as a person who always looked happy and never showed signs of worry or being troubled in any way.

Thoughts and prayers are with the officer and his family.
