“The teachings of Hinduism are universal, irrespective of religious denomination and background,” said Pundit Chunelall Narine from New York.
He spent last Saturday evening at the Sat-Chit-Ananda Temple, Fernwood, educating people more about Hindusim.
“I originally began the tour in South Africa 11 years ago, after I was invited by one of the leading Hindu organisations as part of a Hindu Renaissance campaign. It proved to be successful and I have been coming back to the country every year since. This is my eighth visit to Newcastle and from my side, there has been great progress in creating awareness about Hinduism and bringing people to the faith,” Pundit Narine said.
Determined to foster spiritual growth, he said the purpose of his visit went beyond creating awareness about Hinduism, but was to help people find peace.
“We live in a world where there is crime, political unrest and violence. The teaching of Hinduism is one of unity, brotherhood and compassion. It teaches people to see God in every person and through the teachings of Hinduism we learn you cannot fight violence with violence. Education is the doorway to peace and I am here to help educate people on the importance of abiding to the scriptures.”
