Dannhauser Secondary is definitely a place of quality education as last year’s matriculants proved.
Five learners, Thabiso Msimango, Lungelo Mbongwa, Nomathemba Sibiya, Vumani Maseko, and Khanyisani Ngwenya, were all invited to Durban by the Department of Education, where they were honoured for being among the top achievers.
Dannhauser Secondary’s top achiever was Thabiso Msimango, who achieved 6 A’s and 1 B. His B was for English, where he scored 79%. At the beginning of his matric year, Thabiso worked towards achieving all 7 A’s but was still surprised when he saw his results. “I didn’t believe it at first. I had to see three copies of the paper before it sunk in,” he said.
Studying on average between 2-4 hours a day, Thabiso urged this year’s matriculants to stick to the important stuff. “You should focus on what’s important. Don’t get distracted by the farewell and everything that happens through the year, just focus and study hard.” Thabiso is the best performing student at Dannhauser Secondary School in recent years, an achievement he is proud of. “I worked hard for it so I’m proud to have done it.”
Fellow student, Vumani Maseko, was hoping to achieve 5 A’s and above. He just missed out on that goal, earning himself 3 A’s. He achieved 79% for his favourite subject, Physical Science and even did well in Maths, despite finding it to be the hardest paper.
Vumani explained that he tried to study a little every day, to break up the work load, but also played sports and spent time with friends when trying to unwind. He cautioned the next crop of matriculants that matric wasn’t too hard but was lots of work. ” Work hard and believe in yourself,” he said. While happy with his results, Vumani said he would push a little harder, if he could redo the year, and ensure he achieved straight A’s.
Both Thabiso and Vumani will be studying Electrical Engineering. They both also spoke of their trip to Durban where they were treated like VIPS and got to meet KZN Premier, Senzo Mchunu among other delegates. Principal, Mr McDonald, congratulated the students on their excellent marks and wished them all the best for the future.
With 2015’s matriculants serving as an inspiration to future generations, quality education is set to continue at Dannhauser Secondary.
