RTI officers are heroes of the festive season

A job well done to our local Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) officers in keeping our roads safe over the festive period.
Ladysmith / KwaZulu-Natal RTI worked 24-hour shifts from Tuesday, December 13, to Sunday, January 10.
As reported by RTI chief provincial inspector Mr Dave Steele, there were in excess of 2200 vehicles per hour passing through Tugela Plaza.
Reports of a hijacking on Friday, December 12, saw officers responding. The vehicle was located at Ultra City, where officers discovered that it had not been hijacked but had merely broken down. Arrangements were made and the motorist was soon back en-route to JHB, thanks to good work by RTI.
Taking their jobs seriously and clamping down on offenders, officers made numerous arrests for contravening the rules of the road. The arrests included 83 for driving without a licence, 443 for driving an unlicensed vehicle, and 20 for un-roadworthy vehicles. 90 arrests for outstanding warrants were effected.
A 75% decrease in accidents was reported. Officers did not hesitate to arrest motorists if they were suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, speeding, driving unlicensed vehicles, driving without a licence, and for reckless and negligent driving. These drivers put their own lives in danger, as well as the lives of other road users.
