Detectives from Ezakheni SAPS arrested three suspects on Saturday and Sunday for house robbery, robbery with a weapon (other than a firearm), possession of an unlicensed firearm and murder. The suspects are aged 19, 20 and 21 years old respectively.
The arrests stem from three separate incidents.
In the early hours of the morning on Tuesday, August 18 last year, a man was on his way home when, at DD Section near the bus depot in Ezakheni, he came across two men. They assaulted him with stones and he fell down. They continued their assault on him, using their fists and booted feet, until he lost consciousness. When he regained consciousness sometime later, he noticed that he had been robbed of cash to the amount of R180 and that he had sustained an open wound to his head.
He reported the matter to police and a case of robbery was opened. The Investigating officer conducted an in-depth investigation, leading to the arrest of the suspects. A single suspect was outstanding. He was arrested over the weekend and is set to appear in the Ezakheni Magistrate’s Court today.
Over the same weekend, Ezakheni detectives were busy with an investigation into a murder that took place on the evening of November 17 last year in St Chad’s, Esigodini. Lungisani Buthelezi was shot and killed by unknown gunmen at his home. On Saturday, a 20-year-old suspect was arrested for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm. The suspect and the firearm were subsequently linked to the murder. The suspect will appear in the Ezakheni Magistrate’s Court today.
On Sunday, Ezakheni detectives also arrested a 21-year-old suspect for a house robbery that occurred on January 21 this year just after midnight in Ezakheni C-Section. A resident was asleep when she heard a noise at the door, which was eventually broken down by a man whose face was covered with a towel. The man took her cell-phone and ran away. A house robbery case was opened and further investigation led to the arrest of the suspect. He is also set to appear in the Ezakheni Magistrate’s Court today.
