Vryheid High School – Swimming and athletics going well

Kirston Verschuuren and Karl Kohlmeyer, both grade 11 learners of VHS, will be swimming the 8-miler event at the Midmar Dam this month. They will swim 4 miles on February 12 and another 4 miles on Sunday.

WE had our annual interhouse gala recently and we were blessed with a light rainfall, which is ideal for swimming.

The event carried on despite the rainfall. Congratulations to the following trophy winners: Karl Hellberg (400m freestyle, 200m freestyle, 200m backstroke, 200m breaststroke and Senior Victor Ludorum), Kirston Verschuuren (400m freestyle, 200m freestyle, 200m backstroke and Senior Victrix Ludorum), Catia Marques (200m breaststroke), Chloe Henstock (Junior Victrix Ludorum) and Ivan Tschirpig (Junior Victor Ludorum). Grey-King was our victorious house. A special thank you to Mrs Feather for organising the event.

Athletics: We competed at the athletics meeting on January 30 in Piet Retief. The following first places were achieved: N Nyawo – 200m B u/15, M Ngwenya – 400m B u/15, S Taylor – 3000m G u/17, M Niebuhr – High Jump G u/16 and S Henning – G u/19.

Swimming: Kirston Verschuuren and Karl Kohlmeyer, both grade 11 learners of VHS, will be swimming the 8-miler event at the Midmar Dam this month. They will swim 4 miles on February 12 and another 4 miles on Sunday.

A requirement is that they must raise R10 000 each for their respective charities. Kirston and Karl would like to thank the Vryheid community and their high school for their support and generous donations. More help and donations are still needed to achieve their targets.

We wish both swimmers good luck and a successful swim.
