Pedestrians knocked down in Protea Drive
A teenager and a young child were hit while crossing the road this morning

Two pedestrians have been knocked down along Protea Drive (new road leading to Ezakheni) in separate incidents this morning.
A 17-year old girl was crossing the road when a VW Golf hit her. According to the driver, she hooted for the teenager to move off the road, but instead the pedestrian ran towards the vehicle.
The 17-year-old was flung down an embankment, where she lay until paramedics arrived.
Sharaj Ambulance Service responded to the scene. The pedestrian sustained moderate injuries.
Shortly afterwards, further down the road, a four-year-old girl was crossing the road with her grandmother when a Hilux bakkie hit the child. The child was also treated for moderate injuries.
Both pedestrians were stabilized by Sharaj Ambulance Services and EMRS paramedics before being transported to hospital.
Police, Public Safety and breakdown services were on scene.
Traffic along Protea Drive has increased drastically since the new road leading to Ezakheni has been opened. Many motorists are delighted, as this route shortens the distance to and from Ezakheni Industrial Area. However, on the other hand, there is a new danger for pedestrians trying to cross this busy road.
