Vryheid Landbou High School – ‘Be great, be gracious and be grateful’
The long awaited dream of the school receiving an upgrade, has finally arrived. On February 2, representatives from the Department of Education and Department of Agriculture handed over the school to the contractors responsible for the upgrades.
DURING the weekend of January 15 to 17, Landbou held their orientation weekend.
Activities included completing the Landbou race and learning the ways of the school. The grade 8s and newcomers had to learn the Code of Conduct, the school song and also practise for their concert. It was a successful weekend! Each learner was taught what the motto of the school “growing tall trees to greatness at Landbou” meant. A big thank you to all educators involved, the parents for entrusting us with their children and for the children for enthusiastically participating in all aspects of the camp. You are worthy to be called Landbouers.
On January 28 and 29, we held our annual interhouse. It was a sea of green and red with each team trying to out-jumped, out-ran or even outscreamed the other. The Saaiboere were victorious on the track and in the field events, while the Veeboere were kings of the team spirit. The learners’ enthusiasm and willingness to try new things, just proves what wholesome children we have here. Thank you to all who helped in whichever way they could.
It is with great sadness that we had to greet one of the pillars of our school. Mrs Sonia Valentine has moved to Bloemfontein to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren. The school will always remember her willingness to help and her love she had for the school and all its children and staff.
The school, however, would like to welcome the following new people: Mrs Marnie van Niekerk (Admin) and Mr Nicolas Glutz (Maths and NS).
Agri-Echo Practices has started and winter sport practises began on February 1. The fierce competition on the practise field ensures some exciting matches in the future. Watch this space!

Mr Geert Slump represented the school at the yearly Saalov from February 3 to 5.
We are still praying for rain and are very grateful for people all over the country who have brought ‘Miracles on Wheels’ with tons and tons of water.
