At the end of January, Martie Pepler put her pens to rest as she retired from the Education Department. It marked the end of a long and illustrious career at Newcastle Senior Primary School.
Mrs Pepler served as secretary for a total of 34 years at the school. During this time, she became an integral part of NSPS. She kept control of all the finances of the school, and was always available to assist educators, parents and pupils at the financial office.
She has seen principals come and go, and witnessed the school grow and evolve. She certainly saw the mark technology made in the corporate world. When she began as secretary, she typed on the old-school typewriters and ended with a word processor.
Any typed work had to be faultless in those days, or it needed to be retyped. There were no backspace or delete buttons! Mrs Pepler lived and worked through all this, and always remained smiling and cheerful. After hours, she helped her husband, Ryk Pepler with his business administration as well.
In her free time she and her husband were avid birdwatchers and nature-lovers, and we know that she will make good use of her retirement. She will continue to pursue these interests and enjoy more time with her grandchildren.
Mrs Pepler, we wish you well. The staff of NSPS will miss you incredibly and feel privileged to have known and worked with you!
