Hit ‘n run attack almost kills man
“With the impact, he was flung into a palisade fence”
27-year-old Kiran Lewis lies in agony in a hospital bed after being involved in a hit ‘n run “attack” last Monday.
During an exclusive interview, Kiran recalled the traumatic experience in which he sustained three cracked ribs, a gash to the head and multiple bruises. Kiran thought his life was coming to an end when a motor vehicle hit him not once but twice.
According to the victim, he was travelling along Ajantha Street at about 1am when the motor vehicle he was driving started experiencing difficulties. Accompanied by a friend, they attempted to fix the car. At that time of night, there were not many vehicles on the road.
The men then suddenly noticed a car’s headlights being switched on. The vehicle drove straight in Kiran’s direction.
“With the impact, he was flung into a palisade fence,” said an eyewitness.
He lay helplessly in a resident’s driveway while his “attacker” drove around the area before making his way back to where Kiran lay. Shockingly, he was driven over a second time.
The vehicle then fled, leaving Kiran lying on the ground.
Emergency services and police were notified.
Days after the horrific incident, a 35-year-old man was arrested and appeared in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
The accused was granted R1000 bail and the case was remanded to March 14.
At this stage, the motive behind the attack is unknown and police are investigating a case of attempted murder.
