Police nab 28 suspects over the weekend
The suspects were arrested in the Madadeni area during a crime prevention campaign over the weekend.
A zero tolerance approach by those entrusted to uphold the law yielded major results in Newcastle east over the weekend.
Madadeni SAPS teamed up with Newcastle Public Order Police to conduct a wide-scale crime prevention operation from February 12 to February 15.
“A total of 28 suspects were arrested for various crimes in the area including assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, common assault, robberies, drunken driving and contravening of protection orders,” explained SAPS spokesperson, Major Thulani Zwane. “These suspects were arrested in and around [the] Madadeni area.”
The culprits made their first appearance before Madadeni Magistrate’s Court on February 15. The outcome of the proceedings was yet to be disclosed at the time of publication.
KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni, commended officers on their unique, yet effective, approach.
“We will conduct such operations in other areas to make sure that wanted suspects for any crime in this province will be arrested and charged accordingly, ” she concluded.
