Car wash water connection still flowing
The water is now being supplied from the neighbouring Department of Planning, Economic and Community Services (PECS) yard
Locals’ outcry regarding the water wasted by the ‘illegal car wash’ in Lorne Street seems to have fallen on deaf ears.
In last week’s edition of the Estcourt News an article titled ‘Water connection in Lorne Street-closed off‘ was published, in which the Acting Municipal Manager, Elphas Dladla said that the water connection in Lorne Street has been closed off.
But this was not the case. Locals expressed their strong disapproval as the water continues to flow; washing a string of taxies daily.
“We have supplied the temporary taxi rank with water from the bowling club for about two years. Now we are sent a R20 000 water account, who is going to pay for that?” questioned an angered Mrs Stoop from the Estcourt Bowling Club.
“We shut the water connection in the bowling club yard, only to find the next morning, they resorted to dumping human faeces from the mobile toilet cubicle into the neighbouring park and this soiled the bowling greens,” added Mrs Stoop.
The water is now being supplied from the neighbouring Department of Planning, Economic and Community Services (PECS) yard, through a black pipe.
The pipe goes through the fence and into the bowling club yard, over the wall and into buckets.
The PECS gate, which is wrapped with a large linked chain and lock is kept open to access the water connection after working hours.
