Local religious group appears on TV

Ladysmith Bhakthi Sangeeth features quite regularly on Lotus FM, Hindvani and East Wave

Citizens of Ladysmith were privileged and indeed proud to see one of their own on television. Last year, SABC 3 did a broadcast at the SDS Hall in Forbes Street and due to their regular songs being played on air, local religious group ‘Ladysmith Bhakthi Sangeeth’ was invited to perform and were televised.

Being a first for Ladysmith, founder Suresh Ramsubak did the first item on SABC 3 in October last year.  This was followed by his daughter, Ashmita, last weekend. Coincidentally, Ladysmith Bhakthi Sangeeth were also the first cultural organisation to launch their CD in 2005, which has recorded big sales throughout South Africa. Ladysmith Bhakthi Sangeeth features quite regularly on Lotus FM, Hindvani and East Wave (Lenasia).

They are also regularly invited to do the Hanuman Chalisa Recitals at Saligran (Durban), Vishnu Tandir (Greytown), Vishnu Tandir (Maritsburg) and SDS Ladysmith. They are also proud to have rendered their services in the form of Satsangs throughout KZN, Gauteng, Pretoria, Piet Retief and Vryheid to name a few.

They can be heard regularly at memorial services and prayer functions.

Ladysmith Bhakthi Sangeeth is led by Suresh Ramsubaj, a singer since the age of 15. He has won numerous awards at the Durban City Hall. In 1995, he was judged ‘Best Male Vocalist’ in the NKZN region, and in 1997 received Pinkie Mothies Artes Award at the Durban City Hall. In 2005, Suresh decided to take up Bhajan (religious songs) seriously and has made a tremendous success of it.

Their second volume will be released later this year.

Their sincerest thanks go to Mother Saraswathee (Goddess of Music) and those who had faith in them, as well as their mentors Dharam Maharaj (Glencoe) and Avish Ramkisson, and SABC 3’s ‘Sadhana’.  As the saying goes: “If music be the food of love, play on.” “The Ramsubak family does not play for gain or fame, but for passion,” says Suresh.
