DA make their mark in Dannhauser

Residents urged to fight for their rights

The Democratic Alliance (DA) continues to make strides in Dannhauser as the Local Government Elections draw nearer.

DA Aspirant Candidate, Farzana Dookie, recently hosted a house meeting in Lotus Drive, Dannhauser, where members of the community got the chance to learn more about the party and the plans it has for the town.

Residents were addressed by Dannhauser DA Councillor, Sipho Kunene, DA Youth Rep, Steyn Rooiman and DA Aspirant Candidate, Talha Randeree. Among issues addressed were the issues of water, roads and basic service delivery. The party also touched on the voter registration weekend and why it was important for residents to register.

Aspirant Candidate,Talha Randeree urged people to fight for the rights and report matters to their local councillor if they were not getting the services they were entitled too. “They swore an oath to you and your town to serve. You can hold them accountable if they break that oath.”

“You can go up to your Ward Councillor, who happens to be your Mayor, and ask what has she done for you,” he added. Residents also raised the issue of burst pipes and exorbitant water accounts with the DA representatives.

Mr Randeree urged residents check their water metres and document the readings. Therefore if their bills come back with wrong amounts, they have proof that the reading is wrong.

He reminded residents that water and sanitation fell under Amajuba District Municipality and not their local municipality. However, added that Amajuba was now bankrupt.

“They’ve moved past the red and onto a new colour.” Cllr Sipho Kunene urged residents to report their problems and concerns with him, so that he could address it in council.

The DA have already made their mark felt in Dannhauser and continue to do so as the election fever heats up.
