Councillors as well as municipal management gathered at the council chamber on Friday, February 26 for a special council meeting.
Once the notice of the meeting was read out by the Acting Municipal Manager Elphas Dladla and other formalities were completed, Speaker Cesar Nunes, then made council aware of the statements and communication that have been sent through to his office.
One of which recommended that council amends the Standing Rules and Orders: Clause 10 by adding on the agenda Change Management Committee.
This was initially a request made by Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA).
Three presentations were made to councillors at the special council meeting held last Friday.
First to deliver their presentation to council was the local committee of the South African National Taxi Council (Santaco).
The committee, amongst other things, aims to reduce danger on our roads. Earlier that morning they set out to do just that with the help of the Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI).
The presentation was welcomed by council.
Then Wonder Pots were displayed. These beautiful handmade pouches do a lot more than just look pretty as the women from Wonder Pots Programme explained.
The programme is spearheaded by KwaZulu-Natal Primer Senzo Mchunu’s wife, Thembeka Mchunu. It keeps hot items hot, or it can cool down items. This is how it works, you get your food boiling for a few minutes, snuggle it right down into the centre, and then close the cushioned pouch.
It continues to cook your food without any power and the best part is, your food doesn’t burn.
The women handed a few of the ‘powerless crock pots’ over to councillors to keep. The last presentation was that off academic nature.
The Mayor Bongani Dlamini handed over a thesis he had compiled as part of the courses taken up at the University of Durban-Westville.
The thesis contains research and findings on Umtshezi Municipality
Soon a copy will be made available at the town library.
Council congratulated him on his achievement. Before the closure of the meeting a few items had to be considered by council.
