Unlicensed firearms recovered, three arrested

He was found in possession of an unlicensed 303 rifle and eleven rounds of ammunition

A group of members from Public Order Police units in Pietermaritzburg, Port Shepstone and Durban who are currently working in the Bergville area, over the weekend recovered several unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

On February 26 at about 11am the group were working in the Stulwane area when they noticed a person behaving suspiciously.

The man was searched and in his possession police found an unlicensed pistol and 13 rounds of ammunition. The 28-year-old suspect is set to appear in the Bergville Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

On February 29, the group was working with Ladysmith Crime Intelligence at the Isandlawana area in Upper Tugela when at about 1.15am they arrested a 23-year-old man.

He was found in possession of an unlicensed 303 rifle and eleven rounds of ammunition. In the same vicinity a second suspect, aged 22, was arrested for the possession of an unlicensed .22 rifle. Both suspects appeared in the Bergville Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
