A man was arrested and goats seized as a result of crime prevention operations being carried out by Upper Tugela Borderline officers on Thursday.
The officers spotted a vehicle transporting goats in the Sandlwana area of Bergville and the driver failed to produce any transportation documents for the animals.
20 goats were seized and police will investigate further to verify the ownership of the livestock. A 56-year-old man was arrested and appeared in the Bergville Magistrate’s Court on Friday for possession of suspected stolen property.
“Stock owners are once again urged to ensure that their livestock are properly marked as per the Animal Identification Act, as this will ensure a return to the original owners if animals are recovered. We will continue to conduct operations that will assist in rooting out stock theft in our province,” said Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni (KZN Provincial Commissioner).
