An assurance from Uthukela District and Umtshezi municipalities about the completion of road repairs, as highlighted in last week’s paper, has been given this week.

Both municipalities have resolved to repair the problems that were brought to their attention by a reader via the newspaper.

Seeing that most of the incomplete road repairs were as a result of repairs of a burst water pipe, Uthukela District Municipality reported this week that three areas have been inspected.

In Valley View Road, a consumer water connection has been causing the leak and district municipality spokesperson Jabulani Mkhonza said that this leak was not reported until sent through by the Estcourt News.

The leak was repaired on Friday, February 26.

“In Richmond Road – this was a leaking main line, which was repaired a long time ago but had a slight leak on the clamp, which we were monitoring; the leak stopped and we backfilled the pipe a week or two ago,” explained Mr Mkhonza.

Umtshezi’s Acting Municipal Manager Elphas Dladla said that the areas concerned will be inspected and attended to with assistance from the district municipality.

“The rubble will be removed, as we have removed rubble in many areas on Friday,” added Mr Dladla.
