The SAPS has no new leads.
Officially, following a vandalism spree in the Lennoxton and Suryaville suburbs at the end of February, no cases have been opened.
This is according to the local Communications office.
Vandals spraypainted and shattered glass windows of local businesses on Centre Street, before moving onto parked vehicles and the walls of parked vehicles towards Boundary Road.
This string of crimes were boxed in the category of social ills.
Previously, municipal officials said destruction of public property was difficult to police, and urged residents to report crime to the SAPS for investigation.
Residents in the area also expressed their disgust at the status quo.
“The fact that vandals showed little respect or restraint, especially with businesses, shows the problem is bigger than bored children playing around.”
Ward 3 councillor, Matthew Shunmugam said a CCTV stood watch along Centre Street.
He agreed to consult with a ward committee member who also represents the Community Policing Forum, to go about securing footage and unveiling the identities of the perpetrators.
Cllr Shunmugam urged the community to be vigilant and root out those responsible.
“This is the first time such a thing has happened in this ward. It was definitely intentional – who would carry spraypaint around? It was premeditated and done at the expense of other people.”
