Vintage bikes pass through town
The majority of the motorcycles are British and were made before the year 1936, labelled pre-war

With roaring engines they pull up, stopping only briefly for a refill before continuing on their two-day journey…
This afternoon (Friday) at about 2pm, a large group of 85 bikers had a pit-stop at Sondela Service Station in Poort Road to re-fuel. They will travel from Durban to Johannesburg in just two days, where they will attend the Vintage Bike Rally, which is over 102 years old.
Day one on the road to Germiston Motorcycle Club started in Hillcrest, Durban, at 6am this morning; they have had a few stops along the way. Their lunch break was in Estcourt and they will end up in Newcastle to spend the night.
Paramedics are travelling alongside them in case of medical emergencies.
The majority of the motorcycles are British and were made before the year 1936, labelled pre-war. The variety of bikes range from AJS and BSA to Panthers. The oldest bike on the road is a 1909 Humler, bearing the number one and driven by a lady.
The Carte Blanche team is accompanying these bikers and will be showing the action on TV on Sunday.
