A motorist was pistol-whipped and robbed somewhere between Winterton and Estcourt on Wednesday.
The man was travelling in his vehicle when he was flagged down by a group of men in a red VW Golf.
When he stopped, the men hit him with the butt of a gun and robbed him of cash.
Winterton detectives are investigating a case of armed robbery.
