Stopping at a red traffic light, one doesn’t expect to look down the barrel of a gun.
A 19-year-old teenager knows exactly how gut-wrenching it is.
The victim was on his way back home from the SPCA, when he stopped at the Drakensberg Drive and FW Beyers Avenue intersection at a red traffic light.
“Out of nowhere, a man put his hand through my car’s open window, pointed a firearm at me and demanded money,” said the young man, who wished to remain anonymous.
Noticing the gun was real and fully loaded, the youngster reached for his wallet and gave the suspect R120.
“I could see the gun was real and saw a bullet as I looked down the barrel. He didn’t ask for the car or anything else, just money. When I gave him my money, he walked away without a care in the world.”
As he watched the suspect make a quick departure, the teenager contacted the police on his cellphone.
“I gave them a full description of what he looked like and what he was wearing.”
The young man hopes justice will prevail and the perpetrator will be arrested.
“I am really traumatised and I won’t be going to Barry Hertzog Park again. I would encourage people to keep their car windows closed when driving, and be vigilant about people standing near traffic lights,” he warned
