On Thursday, March 10, the Ezakheni Regional Court convicted and sentenced 23-year-old Khumbulani Innocent ‘Nkwenkwe’ Sibeko to 15 years’ imprisonment for murder and three years for resisting arrest. The sentences will run concurrently.
The conviction and sentence stems from an incident that occurred on September 24 last year.
Ezakheni Visible Policing officers were on duty patrolling when they received a complaint of a stabbing in Ezakheni B-Section. On arrival at the address in question, they were informed that the victim, later identified as 27-year-old Nkululeko Nkosi, had already been taken to St Chad’s Clinic for treatment.
They proceeded to the clinic, where it was confirmed that the victim had passed away.
A case docket of murder was opened and investigated by Sergeant MKK Cele of Ezakheni Detective Services.
Sgt Cele conducted a thorough and meticulous investigation that led to the arrest and conviction of the accused. In his remarks on the docket, the prosecutor praised the exceptional work done by him during the investigation, as well as during the trial.
Ezakheni SAPS station commander Colonel Dludla congratulated Sgt Cele on a job well done.
