Over the previous weekend police made a number of arrests. These ranged from possession of an unlicensed firearm to possession of dagga.
On Sunday, March 13 Estcourt police stopped a suspicious-acting driver along Kemps Road. Upon searching the driver it was discovered that he was in possession of a pistol for which he could not produce a licence. The suspect, aged 31, appeared in the Estcourt Magistrates Court, facing charges of possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
In Bergville a tip off led police officers to the Acton Homes area and a search of a premises there revealed 10 ‘pokes’ of dagga, which weighed in at around 200 grams.
The estimated street value of the dagga is around R300 to R500. The 34-year-old suspect appeared in the Bergville Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, March 15.
In Nkwezela Section, Wembezi the community came forward with information of a drug ‘merchant’ in the area. Police officers swooped in on the premises and arrested a 32-year-old man.
He was found in possession of dagga weighing just less than one kilogram and appeared in the Estcourt Magistrates Court last Tuesday on charges of possession of dagga. The estimated street value of the dagga is around R1 500.
