AfriForum was forced to do its own maintenance in Utrecht recently.
Representatives of the party stated it had conducted repairs to damaged electrical cables, and undertook a survey of which electrical boxes were functioning correctly.
The eMadlangeni Municipality has neither confirmed nor denied this.
Despite the continued silence from the municipality, AfriForum reported that if 10 electrical boxes were working, “it was a lot.”
Many of these boxes are not even locked to prevent tampering.
“They always use the excuse of inheriting old infrastructure, but this isn’t an excuse after 20 years,” party members said.
The culmination of an electrical nightmare in Utrecht, was a three-day long power outage earlier this year, which is believed to have been resolved by a technician from Newcastle.
AfriForum fears the lack of interest by the municipality could be fatal.
“If a child fiddles with those boxes, they could die.”
At the time of going to print, branch chairman, Andre Homann said the situation had stabilised, but was not permanently resolved.
The party seeks a meeting with the municipality in this regard.
“From past experience, this will not be easy!”
eMadlangeni Municipality has also ignored invoices submitted by AfriForum, outlining costs incurred during the maintenance project.
