Youth development club on the move
On Friday, February 19, the Youth Development Club from Phumelelani Primary School in Rosedale was among the schools invited by Bhekuzulu Self-Sufficient Project (BSSP). On Friday, February 19, the Youth Development Club from Phumelelani Primary School in Rosedale was among the schools invited by Bhekuzulu Self-Sufficient Project (BSSP).
This programme was aimed at combatting and addressing social ills suffered predominantly by local rural communities.
These challenges include HIV//Aids, family planning, forced marriages, gender-based violence, domestic violence and teenage pregnancy.
Phumelelani Youth Development Club staged a drama for which they were placed first and in the poetry category, they were placed second.
Both these genres aimed at highlighting dangers posed by these social ills and possible interventions.
Incentives in the form of certificates and trophies were awarded to winning schools to motivate participants.
The local communities from Imbabazane wards nine and ten benefitted and learnt a lot from this programme.
Messages of support were presented by role players from the community and sister departments like the South African Police Service (SAPS), Health, Education, Social Development and Legal Aid.
