Meet the white amaZulu – Keegan ‘Sandile’ Baker

The pre-teen will put most Zulu boys his age to shame and will have you asking Johnny Clegg to take a seat.

Earlier this year ten-year-old Keegan Baker’s video of him dressed in traditional Zulu attire while singing and performing a Zulu dance went viral.

The video got the youngster showered with praise and attention on social media. Keegan, who is obsessed with Zulu culture, resides in Nottingham Road in the Midlands.

This red-cheeked blonde has got the moves. Late last year he was probably over the moon to share the stage with Gammy Award-winning singers from Ladysmith Black Mambazo in Durban.

I can only imagine what a head turner a little white boy proudly trotting around in an ibheshu can be.

According to national media reports, Keegan wants to become a sangoma (traditional healer) when he grows up. It was further reported that the Zulu language was one of the things that attracted him to the culture.

The dancing and singing sensation is also fluent in isiZulu, he has been speaking the language since he was two. He was taught by the family’s domestic worker, who had also given him the name ‘Sandile’.

Based on what his mother, Sarah Finlay, told reporters Keegan Baker started speaking isiZulu before he spoke English and can be found repeatedly watching  films on weekends.
