The Madadeni Regional Magistrate’s Court recently convicted a 20-year-old man for rape.
On February 22, 2013, a 12-year-old girl was accosted by two men while on her way to the store.
The suspects took her to a home nearby, where one of them proceeded to rape her.
A case was opened, and handed over to the Newcastle Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit for further investigation.
The suspects, Thulani Tsotestsi (19) and Lucky Ngubeni (20), were arrested soon thereafter and charged for the appalling crime.
Later, the Stated Mr Tsotestsi to testify as a Section 204 witness.
Ngubeni was subsequently trialed for the crime, and sentenced to 18 years’ imprisonment on April 1.
The victim and her family reportedly welcomed the conviction and consequent sentencing.
