Four people sustained injuries when a light motor vehicle and a delivery van collided on the N11 on March 31.
According to ER24’s Jan Henk van Vuuren, the delivery van allegedly rear-ended the light motor vehicle.
“All [the patients] sustained minor injuries, and were taken to Mediclinic Newcastle and Madadeni Hospital,” he said.
While the exact cause of the collision is unclear at this stage, officials were on the scene to conduct preliminary investigations.
According to a statement issued by the Automobile Association of South Africa (AA), the rules of the road never change.
“Every year we try and reinforce them. There are far too many accidents on the roads every year, and by reinforcing the safety rules we hope to minimise the number of road deaths and accidents.”
Legislation stipulates everyone travelling in a motor vehicle should wear a seat belt, and that it is the driver’s responsibility to ensure all passengers are buckled up at all times.
“Always wear a seat belt, and if you have a child in the car, ensure the correct restraints are installed and employed correctly,” the AA advised.
