Sutherland Street is the latest on the road to ruin.
Last Friday, a portion of the street at the busy Terminus Street intersection sunk into the earth, opening a massive sinkhole.
Motorists described the hole as big enough for a small vehicle to fit into.
Shortly after the sinkhole opened, municipal officials strung danger tape around the hole, and undertook repairs to the damaged section.
The road was opened to traffic later that morning.
Municipal workers appear to have filled in the sinkhole, leaving motorists frequenting the area concerned about further collapsing.
To date, however, no vehicles were reported to have been damaged as a result of the sinkhole.
Through means of social media, a comment from resident, Bernice Clark said: “Are we surprised? Most of the roads are in a mess.”
Other streets of Newcastle are said to be in a worse state.
However, there has still been no information from the municipality on what steps it has taken with regard to road maintenance.
In fact, it has been months since any official stance on road infrastructure was taken.
Despite working through formal channels, which includes calls, messages and emails, there has been no reaction from municipal spokespeople or officials themselves.
Meanwhile, busy arterial roads such as the R34 and Allen Street continue to decline.
