Suspicious activity leads to arrest

Police are investigating the possibility that the firearm may have been used in other cases wherein truck drivers were robbed

Estcourt police arrested a suspect in a case relating to firearms.

One of the suspects, aged 34, appeared in the Estcourt Magistrate’s Court last Thursday for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

The suspect was arrested on Tuesday, April 12 at about 7.10pm by Estcourt police who were patrolling when they noticed the lights of a motor vehicle parked at Lowlands Road near Midway Garage.

The vehicle suddenly started to move when the driver realised that the police vehicle was coming his way.

The driver was stopped and police officials searched him as well as the car. The search produced an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. Police are investigating the possibility that the firearm may have been used in other cases wherein truck drivers were robbed.
