Amangwe police recorded another success when they recently arrested two suspects involved in two separate cases of armed robbery and stock theft.

A 24-year-old man appeared in the Estcourt Magistrate’s Court on Friday, April 15 on charges of armed robbery. The incident took place the Mqendandaba area of Amangwe on Wednesday, April 13.

“It is alleged that a truck driver and his crew were off-loading cold drinks at a tuck shop when they were approached by two suspects, one of whom was armed with a firearm while the other brandished a knife. They demanded cash and cell phones from their victims. They then fled the scene,” explained police spokesperson Captain Charmaine Struwig.

The incident was reported to Amangwe police and an investigation started. Amangwe Detectives arrested one of the suspects a few hours later. They are busy tracing the outstanding suspects.

While on Thursday, April 14 about midday, Amangwe police were doing patrols when they came across a bakkie transporting cattle in Gourton. They stopped the vehicle and requested that the driver produce all the necessary documentation for being in possession of the stock.

The driver produced documents, which appeared to have been forged. On inspecting the stock the officers also realised that the brand mark was new. The driver was unable to account for the stock in his possession and the 45-year-old was arrested.

The suspect appeared before the Estcourt Magistrate’s Court the next day. He is facing charges of being in possession of suspected stolen property.

The vehicle as well as the stock has been seized as evidence.
