Maureen Duduzile Dudu Mahlobo allegedly directed hitmen to kill her husband last year, 47-year old Emmanuel Vusumuzi Mahlobo was a former educator.
It was brought to Maureen’s attention that her husband of about 20 years was having an extramarital affair. It’s believed that the late Emmanuel planned on filing for divorce and wanted to remarry.
Emmanuel suffered two gunshot wounds to his chest, killing him instantly at about 1.35am on December 30, 2015 in the Emoyeni area, Wembezi. His assailants shot him through his bedroom window while he was asleep.
Maureen was at her home and out of harm’s way, when the fatal act was being carried out. The Mahlobo couple have four children together, two of which are minors.
The Estcourt Magistrate’s Court heard that the first hitman could not carry out the grisly act and hired another person, who then hired a third hitman who finally ‘got the job done.’ It is alleged by the state that Maureen arranged with the initial hitman that her husband’s death take place in her vehicle.
Evidence was found on a cellular phone linking Maureen to the hitman and presented in court. A case of murder was registered with the Amangwe police; later three suspects were arrested, 41-year-old, Maureen Mahlobo, Bhekinkosi Senzo Khumalo (36) and Thabani Selby Smanza Xaba (30).
Since the arrest they have been appearing in the Estcourt Magistrate’s Court.
The accused made another appearance in court yesterday, Tuesday, April 26 as the bail application hearing continued.
