House break-ins and theft remain rampant in the area despite the police task team being appointed to fight the crime. A plasma flat screen TV was stolen from a home in the new extension, Sibongile, on the night of May 14. The thief broke the window to gain access to the house while the owner was asleep.

On May 15, thieves broke the kitchen window and gained entrance to a house in France, Sibongile, at 2am and stole the following items: flat screen TV, takkies, and a Blackberry cellphone. Goods stolen were valued at R6 850. Between 8:30am and 3:30pm on May 16, a home on Old Acre Street was broken into. The backroom door was forced open to gain entrance to the house. The following items were stolen: petrol generator, tent, gas bottle and meat to the value of R18 250. On May 17, a house on Bulwer Street was broken into and a DVD player, remote control and an amplifier were stolen. The padlock was damaged to gain entrance between 8am and 2:30pm.

Two business robberies also took place this month. A shop belonging to a Mr John in Sibongile was broken into and groceries to the value of R10 450 were stolen. Entrance was gained by forcing the door open. On May 22, Amigos Fish and Chips was also targeted. Entrance was gained through the roof and cash worth R2 800 was stolen. Two men robbed a woman near the Inkatha Freedom Party offices on April 30, when she was trying to load her goods into her car.
One man offered to assist her pack her belongings into the vehicle while the other man offered to hold her handbag. When she gave him the handbag, he ran off with it. Inside was R8 000 cash and a Blackberry cellphone. No arrests have been made on all the above cases. Investigations continue.
